Almost 85 per cent of claims of occupational injuries or fatalities among firefighters from 2007 and 2021 were linked to cancer, twice that of the general population

A palpable solemnity hung over city hall as hundreds of people gathered on Tuesday to memorialize Calgary’s firefighters who lost their lives during or because of their jobs.

More than a hundred working firefighters in formal attire stood behind rows of chairs reserved for the fallen’s loved ones and members of the city council outside the municipal building.
