LOUISVILLE, Ga. (WJBF)- Just weeks away from the 1-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene, state lawmakers have helped the city of Louisville get federal dollars to go towards the next phase of storm recovery.

Back in February, city and county leaders called for help from the state after missing the 120-day FEMA deadline for full reimbursement.

But since then, cleanup for Louisville is in the rear-view mirror.

“We’ve been able to get most of the other things done, such as road repairs, sidewalk repairs, natural gas and piping repairs, things like that," said Mayor Jenny Smith.

Now, thanks to Senator Max Burns and Representative Brian Prince, the city has now received 6 checks from GEMA for a combined $1 million.
