ROCKFORD, Ill (WTVO) — Darren Bailey plans to run for governor for a second time in 2026, according to Capitol News Illinois.
Bailey was defeated by Gov. JB Pritzker in the 2022 election with over 54% of the vote. He is expected to make an official announcement next week, according to sources. Bailey garnered 42.6% of the vote in the previous election.
In addition to Bailey, other Republicans have entered the 2026 gubernatorial race, including DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick, businessman Joe Severino, and Ted Dabrowski.
There is speculation that Bailey might choose Cook County Republican Chair Aaron Del Mar as his running mate, although this has not been confirmed.
The state primary election is scheduled for March 17th, 2026.
