MAGOFFIN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A Rowan County man and woman were arrested on drug trafficking charges.

The incident happened on Sept. 7 in Salyersville on Route 114.

Police said they noticed Maria Yates, 50, of Morehead, walking around a car on the side of the road, prompting them to stop.

When asking if she needed assistance, the officer noticed Roger Chaney Jr., 48, of Morehead, sitting in the driver’s seat of the car.

When talking to Chaney and Yates, the officer noticed a bag containing a orange substance.

Officers searched the car and found a box hidden, disguised as part of the driver’s seat containing 10 to 12 grams of various drug paraphernalia.

Yates and Chaney were arrested on drug trafficking charges among others.

Both were taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
