NEW ORLEANS — Nearly a month after a federal grand jury indicted , she is expected to make her first court appearance on Wednesday for arraignment.

Cantrell faces a series of serious charges, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, obstruction of justice, making false statements, and other federal offenses. The indictment alleges that Cantrell and her former bodyguard, Jeffrey Vappie, defrauded the city by engaging in personal activities on city time, ultimately costing taxpayers approximately $70,000 in travel-related expenses.

Since the indictment was announced, Cantrell has made very few public appearances. An attempt to review her recent schedule through a public records request on Wednesday was unsuccessful. Although Louisiana’s public records law allows for in-person
