It’s easy to look at the opening events of the 2026 PGA Tour season, already announced by the tour, and think about players like Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Justin Thomas as the marquee players for those events.
But each of those seven events on the PGA Tour’s West Coast Swing, including The American Express in La Quinta Jan. 22-25, need journeyman players to fill their fields. With The American Express now the largest event on the PGA Tour with a field of 156 golfers — a function of the PGA Tour slimming down fields in other tournaments — officials of the desert’s PGA Tour event will be especially interested in what happens in the events that kick off this week with the Procore Championship in Napa.
