On September 16, voters in Board of Supervisors District 4 can make history by voting to recall Supervisor Joel Engardio. Absentee voting has been open since August 18.

The principal ground for the recall is a double-crossing of his Sunset district constituents by placing Proposition K — a measure to close Great Highway to motor vehicles — on the November ballot without asking them.

There is a pending lawsuit on the grounds that the city and county cannot close a highway — only a state or federal agency can do so. And Mr. Engardio obviously never asked for an opinion from the City Attorney’s Office before the November election.

That’s insidious, insulting and unacceptable to his constituents, 65% of whom voted against his insidiousness and want Great Highway open to them.
