SEATTLE — The King County Auditor’s Office has issued a correction to its report on the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS), originally released on Aug. 26. The correction was shared in a letter to King County council members.
The revision updates the amount of grant funding DCHS awarded in 2019–2020 and 2023–2024. The audit had previously reported $1.5 billion in grants for 2023 and 2024; that figure has been revised to $1.8 billion.
The most significant change affects the 2019–2020 total. The original report stated DCHS awarded $22 million in grants during that period. The corrected figure is $922 million—an increase of $900 million. The auditor’s office describes the original report as “incomplete,” noting the error was identified by a former DCHS director.
