BLUFFTON — Town Councilmember Bridgette Frazier filed a lawsuit against her own local government regarding a traffic arrest.

Frazier and her husband, Warren Patterson, sued the town of Bluffton, its police department, Police Chief Joseph Babkiewicz, Officer Richard Ramirez and the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles on 12 different claims.

A Bluffton spokesperson said the town is aware of the lawsuit but has not received it.

Babkiewicz referred questions about the lawsuit to the town’s legal department, but said Ramirez is in good standing with the police. Last year, he said that his officers followed policy.

A DMV representative said the agency had no comment.
