Dozens of supporters crammed into every available seat at Orange Courthouse as a Wiradjuri man contested a trespassing charge.
On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, dressed in a kangaroo skin, with white ochre painted on his face and wearing a feather headdress, Paul Wayne Towney had pleaded not guilty to entering enclosed land without a lawful excuse and property damage.
Towney, 61, of The Entrance, represented himself but said he was doing so under "Wiradjuri nation sovereignty law".
While he did not dispute the allegation that he cut a chain at a padlocked gate to enter a property at 347 Leeds Parade on February 1, 2025, Towney did dispute the ownership of the land.
