BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — The State of Arkansas is requesting a fitness to proceed examination for Brian Hyatt, the former Northwest Arkansas psychiatrist embroiled in an ongoing Medicaid fraud case.
Hyatt, the former head of the Arkansas State Medical Board as well as the Behavioral Health Unit at Northwest Medical Center, was arrested in 2023 for two counts of Medicaid fraud, to which he pleaded not guilty.
According to court documents, an informant that worked with Hyatt claimed he was only present in the unit for a few minutes each day and had no contact with patients. During this time, a "significant growth in the unit and likewise in the claims and billings submitted to Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance" was noted.
