CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Federal prosecutors said on Tuesday that the death penalty was on the table for Decarlos Brown Jr., the man accused of killing a woman on the Charlotte light rail.

Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, said on Tuesday, Sept. 9 that the stabbing remains under investigation, and that more federal charges are possible. One federal charge was announced on Tuesday against Brown, 34, who was already locally charged with first-degree murder in connection with the case.

Surveillance video obtained by WBTV last week showed the moments that Brown allegedly stabbed Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska to death on a Blue Line light rail train on Aug. 22.
