The Detroit Tigers sent 14 batters to the plate in a nine-run seventh inning, beating the New York Yankees 12-2 on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.

The Tigers (83-62) and Yankees (80-64) play twice more this week.

The game was tied at 2 entering the seventh when the Yankees turned to Fernando Cruz, one of their most reliable relievers. But Cruz allowed five straight batters to reach base: a double by Riley Greene, walks to Spencer Torkelson and Wenceel Pérez, an RBI single by Parker Meadows, and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Dillon Dingler.
