EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — East Cleveland Mayor Lateek R. Shabazz and Sandra Morgan, who preceded Shabazz in her months-long stint as interim mayor, are set to square off in November to determine the city's chief executive.

Morgan and Shabazz were the top two finishers in Tuesday's five-candidate mayoral primary , advancing both candidates to the nonpartisan general election on Nov. 4.

Morgan, who led the city from Feb. 28 to July 17, finished ahead of the field by an overwhelming margin, with 77.93% of the 1,228 votes tabulated on Election Night. Shabazz followed with 14.82%.

Sean L. Ward, the CEO of an East Cleveland community development corporation, finished third in the primary at 5%. Ward was trailed by radio host Vidah Aminah Saeed and former City Council President Juanita Gowdy,
