More than six months after wind-whipped flames tore through parts of Los Angeles, two Republican senators are opening an investigation into the Palisades Fire that killed 12 people and damaged or destroyed thousands of homes.
“You can’t stop what happened — but you can learn from what happened,” said Senator Rick Scott, R-Fla. in an interview with Spectrum News on Tuesday.
Scott, along with Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said the investigation will examine “the failures surrounding the preparation for and response to this disaster.”
A major focus will be the Santa Ynez Reservoir, which had been empty, offline and undergoing repairs for months because of a torn cover. Firefighters complained they lacked enough water to battle the flames.
