LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced this week that 40 Arkansas National Guard members will assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations across the state. Eighteen of those guardsmen will be stationed in Little Rock.
According to the governor’s office, the guardsmen will help with detainee transport and processing, but they will not be armed or patrolling neighborhoods.
Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. said he only recently learned of the decision and is still reviewing the details with city leaders.
“Well, I just learned the information and the news about that decision,” Scott said. “I want to take some time to review all of the details first, alongside our chief of police and other city leaders.”
