FAIRFAX, Iowa (KCRG) - The Eastern Iowa Airport says a proposed Alliant Energy power plant in Fairfax could cause big problems for flights through the airport.
The Eastern Iowa Airport has said it feels blindsided by Alliant Energy’s proposed power plant in Fairfax.
Meanwhile, Alliant says Fairfax is the main area it’s considering, largely because it would be cheaper for the power company.
The Eastern Iowa Airport says plumes from power plant’s smoke stacks could interfere with planes landing on the runway.
The airport in Cedar Rapids said the vapor could cause ice on the tarmac and nearby roads.
The Airport also has a long term plan to build a third runway, which is set to be built two miles from the proposed power plant.
“The airport will be negatively impacted if it goes in,” said
