MACOMB – While several schools across the state celebrated great seasons in 2024, Macomb Dakota’s girls golf team celebrated a milestone that most don’t know about outside of its circles.

The Cougars became the first Macomb County school to finish in the top five at the Division 1 state finals since Utica recorded the feat back in 2012. Utica finished third that season to become the highest-ever Macomb County finisher in Class A/Division 1 for a tournament that dates back to 1973.

The Chieftains also finished sixth a year earlier (2011) to become a rare top-10 team finisher from Macomb County over the years, albeit in back-to-back seasons.

Dakota is chasing something similar this season.
