A homeless man allegedly punched a woman multiple times in the South End on Friday and later told police officers “I am trying to bring your attention to me,” police said.

Just before 12:15 p.m., officers were called to the area of 190 W. Canton St. for a report of an assault and battery in progress, police said in a report.

They arrived to find a woman holding ice to her left cheek and crying while her alleged assailant, Jose Edgardo Miranda-Martinez, was standing nearby on the sidewalk.

The woman told police that Miranda-Martinez, whom she had never seen before, approached her on the street and without provocation punched her in the face three to four times.
