The revelations surrounding President Donald Trump’s possible presence in the FBI files on dead billionaire-financier-pedophile Jeffrey Epstein amount to a scandal on a level our country has never seen. The harmful implications for Trump and government officials who continue to pledge allegiance to him are almost impossible to imagine.

But Catholics in the U.S. have lived through a scandal that helps put these ongoing events in perspective. It’s not a comforting perspective.
