ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Michael Butler has been reelected as mayor of Orangeburg following Tuesday’s city election.
Butler defeated challengers Darnell Johnson, James McQuilla, Gene Nelson and Jeanna J. Reynolds.
“I feel great. What I’m most thankful for is the voters spoke. They spoke tonight. They really spoke. They spoke at the poll. Numbers don’t lie,” Butler said after results came in.
Three city council seats were also contested. Incumbents Jerry Hannah and Liz Zimmerman Keitt were reelected. Jordan Hawkins defeated Richard Stroman for the District One seat.
Orangeburg County Voter Registration Director Aurora Smalls said turnout varied widely depending on the precinct.
