GREEN BAY — In late July, as all of his Green Bay Packers teammates were in the throes of the first week of training camp, Christian Watson was still a bystander. And an impatient one .

The Packers fourth-year wide receiver was still recovering from offseason surgery to repair the torn ACL in his right knee that he’d suffered in the Jan. 5 regular-season finale against the Chicago Bears.

And while he was ahead of schedule in his comeback, he knew he’d be starting the season on the physically unable to perform list — less-than-ideal circumstances for a guy in the final year of his rookie contract.
