STOCKTON, Calif. —

One man was shot by officers during a foot pursuit in Stockton on Tuesday, according to the police department.

Officials said the shooting stemmed from an enforcement stop just after 6 p.m. in the area of Doray Court and Pixie Drive.

Stockton police said a man ran from officers during the encounter and dropped a loaded handgun. The man then allegedly tried to reach for the gun, which is when officers discharged their firearms, striking the man with gunfire.

The man was taken to an area hospital and his condition is unknown.

Nearby residents told KCRA 3 reporter Peyton Headlee they heard multiple gunshots. One resident said they ran outside and saw officers administering CPR.
