Teachers in Australia have revealed why they are really leaving the industry after strike action occurred in Queensland over better pay and conditions.

The Queensland Teachers Union (QTU) paused any further strikes on Tuesday, less than a month after 50,000 public school teachers protested in the northern Australian state for the first time in more than 16 years.

The QTU’s proposed Enterprise Bargaining 11 (EB11) agreement with the Liberal National Party state government aims to secure nation-leading salaries, tackle the teacher shortage and ensure workplace safety.

However, after 18 meetings, Premier David Crisafulli's proposal remains - an enterprise bargaining offer of an eight per cent nominal pay rise over three years.
