SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- For six months, an abandoned recreation center in Liberty Station has been trespassed, vandalized and spray painted after it was burned to the ground.

“This has been looking like this and it’s just gotten worse and worse day-by-day,” said Jen Doud. a local resident.

The fire raged through the structure on a cold night in early March. Fire crews cleared the building of people and stopped the flames from jumping to other buildings.

But residents who live in the area have become impatient with the lack of progress to the park recovery.

“I think the fence needs to be taken down and they just need to eliminate the problem, it’s like a band aid on a wound,” said Chevar Commings, a Navy Veteran who lives in the Liberty Station area.
