While people continue to ask artificial intelligence products about the news, one study says they aren’t getting the truth.

And it’s getting worse.

The 10 leading AI chatbots repeated false information on controversial news topics at nearly double the rate compared to a year ago, according to an audit from NewsGuard, a global leader in the growing field of “information reliability.” It provides software, data, analysis and journalism to help companies and people identify reliable information online.

When prompted by questions about those news topics, the chatbots offered false claims 35% of the time.

It looks like Inflection’s Pi did the worst job, followed by Perplexity, Meta and Open AI’s ChatGPT.
