I already told you how much I loved writing for the Rockford Register Star the last 35 years. And how the coach of the first game I ever covered in Rockford, Winnebago boys basketball coach Joe Murphy, is still coaching 'Bago. Well, here are a few examples of why in my final story before retiring from the Register Star.

Maybe the best compliment I received in recent days came from Mary Kaull, the exceptional former editorial writer at the Register Star. She said I zigged when others zagged. A lot of my favorite stories over the years were like that. Others were simply spotting something small but unique and seeing a story there that maybe others wouldn't. Anyway, here are a few of my favorite stories over my 35 years in Rockford.
