A tornado has roared through regional New South Wales as residents were advised to stay indoors until further notice.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said the tornado was spotted northwest of the town of Young about 3.30pm, and NSW Rural Fire Service has shared pictures to social media of the weather phenomenon, captured from a fire tower at Tubbul.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the BOM on Wednesday for multiple areas across the state, with the alert saying that thunderstorms could possibly bring with it large hailstones, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall that could result in flash flooding in coming hours.
Areas that could be worst affected by the thunderstorms include Orange, Mudgee, Yass, Bathurst, Capertee and Kandos.
