BUSHNELL, Ill. (WGEM) - ADM announced they are consolidating its soybean protein operations and that they will be closing the facility in Bushnell, Illinois, next year as a part of the consolidation.

ADM has been a part of the McDonough County town for more than 40 years.

Local economic development officials said they were taken by surprise by the announcement and that the exit will have an impact on city-owned utilities.

They said ADM notified them of the closure Aug. 29.

“We’re not a stranger to the potential of having a factory close, so we do know, just based on last year with Marshalltown and Vaughan Manufacturing, we know what those impacts can look like and that’s detrimental to a community that’s 3,000 people, so we’re going to do everything we can to try to figure out a plan B
