IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - In December of 1992, investigators combed the Iowa City landfill after Doug Jamieson, a Kalona Dump Truck Driver, found a dead baby.

“I’ll always remember what that baby looked like when I saw it, said Doug during an interview in 1992.

He continued to visit Baby John Doe’s grave for years, hoping and praying that one day someone would find an answer. He eventually lost hope.

“After so long, you just pray for the baby, and he is in the good lord’s hands now,” he said.

That is, until Tuesday, when he said his wife texted him that the mother of the baby was facing first-degree murder charges. Police arrested Cindy Elder, who they identified as the baby’s mother through DNA testing. Prosecutors believe Elder was 26 when she gave birth to the baby in Johnson County.
