JOHNSTON, Iowa —

The second annual Iowa Latino Restaurant Week is taking place, with 20 restaurants across the Des Moines metro area offering special menus that highlight their cultural heritage.

The event features a variety of dishes from countries such as Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, and more.

One of the participating restaurants is Roots 95 in Johnston. Owner Arturo Mora emphasized the importance of showcasing the diversity within Mexican cuisine and other Latin American flavors.

"We wanted to let our people know that there's more to Mexican food, you know, like, there's a lot of regions and Central and South that we have different flavors, and it's not all hot, but it's a lot of good food out there," Mora said.
