THE Green Bay Packers have awarded a bumper contract despite the player being out injured.

He suffered an ACL tear during the Packers ' Week 18 loss to the Chicago Bears last season.

Christian Watson, 26, was set to become a free agent at the end of the 2025 NFL campaign.

The wide receiver was expecting to be playing for his career when he returns from injury.

He was coming to the end of the third and final year of his four-season rookie contract.

Instead, Watson has been handed a lifeline by the Packers as he has agreed to an extension.

This will keep the receiver in Green Bay for at least one more year.

His contract is worth $13.25 million, worth $4 million more than his entire rookie deal.
