California’s move to join with other western U.S. states to offer joint immunization guidance is likely to result in recommendations, vaccine distribution and insurance coverage that are distinct from those in the rest of the nation, local health experts said.

In response to the threat to public health they see from what they call the “politicization” of the the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by President Donald Trump’s administration, the governors of California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii last week announced they were forming an alliance to offer recommendations based on scientific evidence.
