A development dispute involving Norfolk County and the applicant for a housing development in Simcoe has been resolved through mediation.

The dispute stemmed from Norfolk council’s decision to deny a proposed residential application in September 2024 for construction of a three-storey, mixed-use development at 487 Norfolk St. South with commercial space and rental units.

In July 2024, Norfolk’s public hearing committee received a planning report prepared by municipal staff recommending approval of an application for a zoning bylaw amendment for the development based on conformity with the County’s Official Plan and the Provincial Policy Statement.
