The fate of a $12.5-million road reconstruction project in Ingersoll remains uncertain.

At its Sept. 10 meeting, Oxford County councillors were split on the idea of awarding a tender to J-AAR Civil Infrastructures Ltd. for $12,568,575 for the reconstruction of Oxford Road 9 (Hamilton Road/King Street West) from approximately 660 metres west of Oakwood Street to 250 metres east of Oxford Road 10 (Ingersoll Street South).

The $12.5-million price tag was $1 million more than Oxford’s estimated budget for the work, so a motion was proposed by Deputy Warden and Ingersoll Mayor Brian Petrie to simply not award the project and put it out for tender a second time.

Petrie’s rationale began with the estimate being “severely overbudget.”
