HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A mother is sounding the alarm after a social media trend involving medicine almost killed her daughter.

Videos going around TikTok are encouraging teens to reach for Benadryl to get high which nearly killed a 13-year-old in Horry County.

The teen’s mother, who did not want to share her name, said her daughter started hallucinating last week and her heart rate spiked to nearly 200 beats per minute.

The mother rushed her daughter to the hospital after she noticed strange behavior and found the pills under her pillow.

“I asked her how many she took, and she told me two but I didn’t believe her because the bottle was open and there were pills on the bed,” the mother said. “My husband and I counted them, and we noticed a large amount was missing.”
