WESTMINSTER, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Westminster City Council passed a resolution Tuesday evening to change the city’s water treatment process.

According to officials, the removal of fluoride from the city’s water treatment process was first introduced on Aug. 12. A public hearing was held during Tuesday’s city council meeting.

By removing fluoride from the water, city officials aim to minimize the introduction of unnecessary or non-essential chemicals and forgo the financial costs and operational risks of purchasing and handling fluoride for the Westminster’s Utilities Department.

According to the resolution, the removal of fluoride from the water treatment process was made effective immediately.
