SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - The Sarasota County School Board held its final public hearing for the redistricting of the Wellen Park community, as the district gets ready to open its newest school, Wellen Park High School, in August 2026.

Many parents expressed how redistricting their child will become a hassle.

“I’ll have two kids at two different schools, both in marching band, playing at different football games on Friday nights. How do I support both my children when I can only be in one place at one time?” said Sarasota County parent Michelle Valentine.

Hundreds of students will be rezoned once Wellen Park High School opens. School attendance zone boundary changes will impact North Port High School, Venice High School, Heron Creek Middle School, and Venice Middle School.
