CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Republicans in North Carolina are speaking about transit safety on Wednesday morning following last month’s deadly light rail stabbing in Charlotte.

The press conference will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, to address the topic.

A woman was stabbed to death on the Charlotte light rail just minutes after sitting in front of the man accused of attacking her, according to an affidavit.

On Friday, Aug. 22, a woman identified as 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska was stabbed to death on the light rail in Charlotte’s South End neighborhood, officials reported. Zarutska’s family said she had recently fled to Charlotte from war-torn Ukraine.

Records showed that 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr. was charged on Thursday, Aug. 28, with murder
