FARGO — There will be no mistaking the quarterback for Southeast Missouri State when the Redhawks take the field against North Dakota State on Saturday. No, junior Jax Leatherwood didn’t walk on to SEMO from the school’s basketball team.
Yes, he looks more like a power forward at 6-foot-8 and 253 pounds but he’ll be under center for NDSU’s 2:30 p.m. home opener at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome. Leatherwood will be the tallest QB to ever play at the dome and perhaps the tallest an NDSU team has ever faced.
“Well, it’s kind of like looking at a carnival freak,” said SEMO head coach Tom Matukewicz. “At first, it’s like, this guy is huge.”
