A bomb disposal team was called to Leamington on Wednesday (10 September) afternoon after a 'historic device' was discovered.

The object, found in the river, led to a heavy emergency services presence in the Newbold Comyn area, with residents asked to avoid where possible due to traffic issues.

A cordon was thrown up as officers called for disposal experts to take a look at the object. Leamington Police shared news of the incident in a post to followers on social media.

It stated: "A number of our officers are currently at Newbold Comyn in Leamington after an object - believed to be a historic device - was found in the River Leam.

"For everyone’s safety, we’ve set up a cordon and are currently waiting for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team who will come and assess the device.
