MENOMINEE, MI – The public can see how lake sturgeon pass through a hydroelectric dam in the Menominee River, including watching them ride in a one-of-a-kind elevator.
Two free tours of Menominee Dam will take place during the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 22. Participants must register in advance and sign a safety agreement; children need supervising adults, officials said.
The popular annual event is a chance for the public to witness the Great Lakes fish restoration project in action. Scientists from multiple agencies work together each spring and fall to help migrating sturgeon move around the first two of five hydroelectric dams on the Menominee River and reach prime natal waters. 13
