George Popovici’s family moved to Bristol when he was 5 years old, and he was educated here, in more ways than one. An Eagle Scout, he graduated from Bristol High School, and Roger Williams College. But it was the lessons he learned in the seven years of service he gave to the Bristol Fire Department and Rescue Squad that he credits most with shaping the man he would become.
“Back in 1977, I was accepted into the Hydraulion Engine and Hose Company. Back in those days it was at the corner of Franklin and High streets,” said Popovici. “I was a firefighter there and later went did some time with the rescue squad.” Even as a young man, he was aware of the importance of becoming engaged with and giving back to the community.
