A regional MSP has raised the issue of dentistry in Ayrshire at the Scottish Parliament saying that the current model is "not fit for purpose". ‌

South Scotland MSP Carol Mochan called for urgent action to ensure everyone in Ayrshire and Arran can access NHS dentistry during the debate on Tuesday, September 2. ‌

New figures from Public Health Scotland revealed that 59.3 per cent of registered patients in the most deprived areas in Ayrshire and Arran had contact with an NHS dentist in the past two years. ‌

This compares with 73.2 per cent of patients living in some of the least deprived areas.

The figures cover the first quarter of the financial year, ending in June 2025.
