WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is directing federal agencies to crack down on pharmaceutical advertising, arguing that drug companies have misled consumers about their products, according to CNN.

A memorandum Trump signed Tuesday orders the Department of Health and Human Services and other agencies to step up enforcement of existing rules governing direct-to-consumer ads. Administration officials told CNN that the Food and Drug Administration is also preparing new regulations that would roll back a 1997 provision that allowed drug companies to streamline disclosures in television ads, a change they blame for a surge in pharmaceutical marketing.
