In the wake of the Annunciation mass shooting, Governor Tim Walz is making a public plea to U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, asking her to restore state funding that was cancelled earlier this summer.

According to DHS, Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention grants are meant to establish or enhance measures to prevent targeted violence and terrorism. The money is given to state, local, tribal, and territorial governments, as well as nonprofits and higher education institutions.

It is the only federal grant program solely dedicated to helping local communities develop and strengthen their capabilities in this area, per DHS.
