A 22-year-old Aitkin man is facing second-degree murder charges in connection with a killing at a St. Paul homeless encampment in July.
A Ramsey County spokesperson tells Bring Me The News that Francisco Diaz-Xique made his first appearance Wednesday morning in Ramsey County District Court.
According to criminal charges, officers were called to an encampment on the afternoon of July 20 and arrived to find a wounded man, who had been sitting in a chair inside of a tent when he was shot.
Medics tried to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. After his death, investigators discovered a handwritten note inside his jacket with a phone number written on it.
After speaking with witnesses, officers learned two men and a woman had visited the encampment shortly before the shoot
