LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)-- Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has reissued her consumer alert on government imposter scams. Scammers are posing as government officials by using fake emails, calls, or texts.
These messages contain links or attachments and may request personal information or demand money. Nessel urges consumers not to click on these links or download any attachments, as they might contain viruses.
“When you receive these messages, silence is always the best policy,” Nessel said in a news release sent to 6 News. “If someone contacts you claiming to be from the government, protect yourself by reaching out to the agency directly through its official contact information.”
