CVS Pharmacy is expanding access to COVID-19 vaccines in Kentucky, among other states.

As of Sept. 9, officials with the major pharmacy chain confirmed it can now offer COVID-19 vaccines in Kentucky without a prescription.

A request for information from Walgreens was not returned. But online appointments for eligible patients were available to schedule at a Kentucky pharmacy when accessed Sept. 10.

The Courier Journal previously reported Kentucky was one of 13 states where immunizations would only be available through CVS to people in certain age groups and prescriptions would be required.

Confusion has swirled over who can obtain a COVID-19 vaccine since Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced revised federal guidelines on Aug. 27.
