Ferguson Home in Grimes has a rule that all managers have to undergo CPR training. Shift managers Chris Irish and Troy Stoll used to joke about how boring the trainings were.
But on March 17, Stoll suffered cardiac arrest while at work and fell unconscious. It was those same CPR trainings that helped Irish stay poised and save Stoll's life.
And this summer, Irish earned the Lifesaving Award for Professional Responders from the American Red Cross for his heroic efforts.
"You don't expect something like that to happen coming into this place," Irish said. "And it just goes to show you that you never know when your name is going to be called."
A typical morning shift at the home supply store consists of team stretching at 8 a.m. before work begins. But on the morning of St. Patrick's Day
